Two Months Pregnant – A typical response when you find out that someone is pregnant is to say, “Congratulations”. But when people find out you’re two months pregnant, they may be tempted to offer their condolences because being two months pregnant often sucks.
Don’t take it personally. Also, we are happy for you. But for many, it is one of the most challenging stages of pregnancy, overcoming:
the stage where you want to eat hot sauce over pasta
the scene where a literal drop of mucus falls from your cervix without warning
the location where you have to prepare to push a watermelon-sized human out of your vagina
OK, some would say about the latter.
We’re not all trying to be catastrophic here, and it’s just that we believe in being authentic. In this case, telling you this month can mean a lot of unexpected vomiting, crazy food cravings, normal or unnatural staining, and panicking about what the rest of your life will be like.
Spoiler alert: you’re going to do great. And it is what you can expect at two months.
Symptoms at Two Months Pregnancy
For something so small, your baby is causing you many symptoms. It cannot be very comfortable, but it’s completely normal. At this stage of pregnancy, you may feel:
morning sickness or nausea that lasts all-day
vomiting
swelling
an increase in solid aversions or food cravings
an increase in urination
mood swings, crying, and fatigue
changes in the size of your breasts
breast tenderness or pain
excess saliva
constipation
Awesome
Although this can cause concern, it is also customary to experience mild cramping or abdominal pain and spotting in early pregnancy. (We’ll get to that in additional detail in a bit, but the operative word here is “soft.”)
Early pregnancy bleeding is so common that it can occur in up to 25% of pregnancies, and it doesn’t always mean there’s something wrong with your pregnancy.
Your Belly at Two Months Pregnant
Your baby’s belly may be already showing at two months, but it’s more likely that the reason you can’t button tight pants is because of swelling.
Her hormone levels are rising right now and causing a lot of fluid retention, like when she’s bloated before her period.
Still, she might gain about 5 pounds in the first trimester, though that’s better if she doesn’t achieve anything, so her lump may be a lump.
And if this isn’t her first rodeo/pregnancy, she previously stretched abdominal muscles won’t be very effective at keeping that expanding uterus locked up.
Fetal Development at Two Months of Gestation
At two months, the baby is about the size of a raspberry. They still look like an alien, but some human features are beginning to develop: eyes, noses, mouths, and ears are developing outside, while essential body systems, such as respiratory organs and nerves, are growing. They are developing rapidly.
Your baby’s brain makes huge leaps, resulting in a disproportionately giant head. (Don’t worry, he’ll soon be much more human!)
And even though his heart is beating around 140 beats per minute, chances are you still can’t hear it on a Doppler machine at your OB-GYN’s office. (You might be able to listen to your heartbeat on an ultrasound at eight weeks, though.)
